I've been trying off and on for weeks to get a CAC reader to work at home. I've tried 2 different CAC readers on 3 different computers using both Windows XP and Vista 64 bit. Each time I have installed ActivClient, the CAC reader drivers, and the CAC reader. I've even gone back and re-updted my certificates. Everytime the CAC reader will not attempt to read my card. It recognizes that there is a card there but doesn't go the next step to actually read my card. I know my card works as I use it at work everyday. What am I doing wrong?

Hello,

Have you looked at:  https://militarycac.com/cacdrivers.htm ?   It may be an issue where your Smart card service is not running.

One idea that has worked for a LOT of people is to follow this PDF I created.  https://militarycac.com/files/Making_AKO_work_with_Internet_Explorer_color.pdf  Video version: https://militarycac.com/videos.htm#configure_Internet_Explorer

I also created a video for updating the driver and firmware on an SCR-331 USB CAC reader.  Watch video at:  https://militarycac.com/videos.htm#firmware

It could also be the version of the CAC.  I have seen problems on AGM 9.0x with 144K cards.  Patching ActivClient to v6.1.3.130 has made them work.

This can also be true on home computers.

Another possibility is using ActivClient v6.2 (but that can introduce it own set of problems).
